LOUIS, Ill. - A federal jury convicted a Belleville, Illinois, man for attempting to meet with an underage teen to have sex with her.Prosecutors with the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Illinois said Gerald Sewell, 59, was found guilty on Tuesday of one count of attempted enticement of a minor and one count of travel with intent to engage in illicit sexual conduct.Sewell was one of 14 men in the bi-state region charged in June 2020 following an FBI-lead investigation targeting online predators. The Boulder Police Oversight Panel has been without an independent police monitor for the better part of a year, but at a panel meeting Wednesday evening city staff said progress had been made on hiring a new monitor.Aimee Kane, equity officer for Boulder, said at the meeting that 53 applications have been received for the position. A recruiter has narrowed the candidates down to a smaller pool, and there will be a meeting with the recruiter Thursday to determine who will advance to virtual interviews. Those interviews are scheduled for the next two weeks.Kane also said there will be a community event on July 11 where community members will be able to meet the candidates. They will also have the opportunity to submit questions for the candidates in advance. Pickup Truck Collision Near West Pozo Road Kills 52-Year-Old WomanSAN LUIS OBISPO COUNTY, CA (June 15, 2023) – Saturday afternoon, a motorcycle accident along Highway 58 claimed the life of Peggy Masuda.The fatal collision happened around 1:46 p.m. in the southbound lanes of the highway, near Wesr Poza Road.According to the police, a southbound 2007 Harley-Davidson soft-tail motorcycle crossed the double lines for unknown reasons.Consequently, the motorcyclist collided with a northbound Ford Raptor, driven by 74-year-old Danny Oster of Santa Margarita.The first responders rushed the female motorcyclist to Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center in San Luis Obispo.
