He was eventually removed out of precaution.Braves manager Brian Snitker said after the game that Acuña is “fine” but was having trouble bending his knee, so the team wanted to get him treatment right away.Matt Olson also homered for the Braves, winners of five of their last six. They have hit 19 home runs in seven games against Miami this season, including six in a 14-6 win Wednesday night. SAN DIEGO -- Pacific Beach was buzzing with activity Thursday afternoon as tourists made their way to Crystal Pier. But many were disappointed to find a sign saying the pier was closed for maintenance. The city says the Crystal Pier Hotel, which owns the portion of the pier closest to the coast, noticed some damage to the pier during the winter storms. While it is believed that the section of the pier that includes the lodging units is safe for overnight occupancy, the hotel believes that most of the damage happened in the final third of the pier, which is owned by the City of San Diego. A rare sight to see: ‘Scrippshenge’ sunset awes San Diego The hotel controls access to the pier via its property, so it has closed access to the public section of the pier as a safety precaution."The City has hired consultant Moffatt & Nichol to visually assess the current condition of the Crystal Pier. PULLMAN, Wash. (AP) — Newly released body camera video shows the man accused of fatally stabbing four University of Idaho students being pulled over for allegedly running a red light about a month before the killings. The video shows Washington State University campus police stopping Bryan Kohberger on Oct. 14, 2022, in Pullman, the Idaho Statesman reported Thursday.During the nearly 10-minute video, WSU Police Officer Isobel Luengas parks her vehicle behind Kohberger’s 2015 Hyundai Elantra in a parking lot. Luengas approaches Kohberger as he sits in the car and she says he drove through a red light. She asks for Kohberger’s license, vehicle registration and proof of insurance. Kohberger tells the officer he was stuck in the middle of the intersection. “I was behind you the whole time,” she said. “You’re not supposed to enter the intersection at all for that reason because if the light turns red, then you’re stuck in the intersection.”Kohberger, then a WSU graduate student living in...Albanese says nothing served by US still pursuing Assange

CANBERRA, Australia (AP) — Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese expressed frustration at the United States’ continuing efforts to extradite WikiLeaks founder and Australian citizen Julian Assange, saying: “There is nothing to be served by his ongoing incarceration.”Albanese’s comments Friday in an Australian Broadcasting Corp. interview appeared to escalate diplomatic pressure on the United States to drop the charges against the 51-year-old Assange, who has spent four years in Britain’s Belmarsh Prison fighting extradition to the United States. Before that, Assange had taken asylum for seven years in the Ecuadorian Embassy in London.Albanese said Assange’s case had to be examined in terms of whether the time Assange had “effectively served” was in excess of what would be “reasonable” if the allegations against him were proved.“I just say that enough is enough. There is nothing to be served by his ongoing incarceration,” Albanese said.“I know it’s frustrating, I share the frustr...Man pleads guilty to fatal shooting in Seattle protest zone

SEATTLE (AP) — A man accused in the fatal shooting of a young man in Seattle’s Capitol Hill Organized Protest zone in 2020 has pleaded guilty to murder. Marcel Long, 22, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder on Thursday in the death of 19-year-old Horace Anderson, The Seattle Times reported. Anderson was killed June 20, 2020, in an eight-block area of the city where people were protesting the murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis by a police officer. Charging documents said several people called 911 to report the shooting but responding police were met by an angry crowd and left after someone yelled that the person shot had been taken to Harborview Medical Center. Anderson died at the hospital just over 30 minutes after 911 was called.A lawsuit filed by Anderson’s father, Horace Anderson, said police and fire department medics refused to respond to the shooting scene as Anderson was dying. The city settled the lawsuit for $500,000 last year.Long was arrested more than a year ...Oil boom transforms Guyana, prompting a scramble for spoils

ANN’S GROVE, Guyana (AP) — Villagers in this tiny coastal community lined up on the soggy grass, leaned into the microphone and shared their grievances as someone in the crowd yelled, “Speak the truth!” And so they did. One by one, speakers listed what they wanted: a library, streetlights, school buses, homes, a grocery store, reliable electricity, wider roads and better bridges. “Please help us,” said Evadne Pellew-Fomundam — a 70-year-old who lives in Ann’s Grove, one of Guyana’s poorest communities — to the country’s prime minister and other officials who organized the meeting to hear people’s concerns and boost their party’s image ahead of municipal elections. The list of needs is long in this South American country of 791,000 people that is poised to become the world’s fourth-largest offshore oil producer, placing it ahead of Qatar, the United States, Mexico and Norway. The oil boom will generate billions of dollars for this largely impoverished nation. It̵...Latest news
