BROOMFIELD — Broomfield football was a symphony in its 38-6 pummeling of Mesa Ridge in the Class 4A state quarterfinals on Saturday, with Brent Harris and Mason Smiley taking on the roles of conductors. From start to finish, the fifth-seeded Grizzlies couldn’t touch the No. 4 Eagles on offense or defense. Junior defensive back Smiley led the beat of the drums when not once, but twice, he picked off Mesa Ridge quarterback Bryce Riehl, one of which he returned straight to the end zone. Senior running back Harris took the offense to a crescendo with 106 of the team’s 359 total offensive yards, punching in a touchdown of his own.Together, the defending state champions composed a melody worthy of a trip to the state semifinals.“It felt great today. We did it for our seniors. We did it because this is our last time playing at Elizabeth Kennedy Stadium,” Smiley said. “That was definitely a game-changer on the first pick, but that second one? I play against good guys at practice every day, so it’s nothing new. I feel pretty comfortable on the court. The first game, I was letting the game come to me, see if I got open shots. Here’s what a gallon might cost

$4.50, maybe $4.25.That’s how low a regular gallon of gasoline could cost in California by the end of the year, said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, which tracks price trends. The safer bet is $4.50, he said, but $4.25 is not out of the question. An average that low would likely mean “thousands of stations below $4,” he said.Tuesday, the average price of a gallon of regular gasoline was $5.06 in California, still well above the nationwide average of $3.53.Other Tuesday readings: Sacramento, $4.87; Fresno, $4.87; Modesto, $4.78; Merced, $5.03, San Luis Obispo, $5.30.Nationally, De Haan saw the price falling below $3 this winter.Gasoline prices tend to fall this time of year.“Demand from drivers has fallen and we are seeing the impact of winter blend being introduced earlier than previous years.
