PARIS (AP) — After spending decades portraying generals’ wives, a countess and a courtesan, Renée Fleming walked gingerly onto the stage of the Bastille Opera in a blond wig, red coat and black gloves to depict Pat Nixon, former first lady of the United States.John Adams’ “Nixon in China,” a 1987 work among the most acclaimed American operas, received its Paris Opera premiere on Saturday night to eight minutes of applause following a revelatory production by Argentine director Valentina Carrasco that replaced literalism with metaphor. It’s the American way — not dwelling on our mistakes or engaging in a national discussion about what went wrong. And atonement? We don’t do that. But two American Vietnam vets thought differently and became our national conscience, our moral center and our agents of redemption in dealing with the fearsome toll that herbicide spraying and unexploded bombs inflicted on tens of thousands of Vietnamese.Manus Campbell, a Marine from New Jersey, and Chuck Searcy, an Army intelligence analyst from Georgia, have spent the past few decades in Vietnam leading efforts to heal the hundreds of thousands of Vietnamese still suffering from war wounds or diseases linked to herbicide exposure. Thanks to Campbell, Searcy and a small group of scientists and others, the U.S. and others are providing the resources to...

AUSTIN (KXAN) -- Jodi Ware and Judy Santerre made their way into the Texas Capitol early Monday morning, but it wasn't their first time there. Both women lost pets to what they believe was veterinary malpractice. Both women claim the Texas Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners (TBVME) mishandled their cases. Authorities with the California Highway Patrol are investigating a wild crash on the freeway that sent a car and its 29-year-old driver careening into an incredibly dangerous mid-air spin before it came crashing back down on the road.  The crash, which was captured by the dash-cam of a trailing Tesla, occurred March 23 in the eastbound lanes of the 118 Freeway, near De Soto Avenue in Chatsworth.  Video of the terrifying crash shows traffic moving along the 118 Freeway when a dark-colored Kia approaches a Chevrolet pickup that had just transitioned into the middle lane. Moments later, the truck’s front driver’s side tire pops off right in front of the Kia, sending the vehicle into midair spin before crashing back onto the freeway hood first and rolling back right side up.  The tire can also be seen on video bouncing across the freeway and out of frame before returning and slamming into the back of the Kia as it skids to a stop in the roadway.  "High impact ro...
