Thousands of seniors across the country are leaving their high school careers in the rearview this month, and dozens of those graduating from a Norco high school will have a leg up on the competition.Sixty-eight graduating seniors from John F. Kennedy Middle College High School will receive their high school diplomas on Thursday, and will be awarded Associate's Degrees only two weeks later thanks to the school's partnership with Norco College.Students at JFK can earn up to two years of college units before graduating high school. They can begin taking those courses immediately in their first year of attendance at the school.School officials say many of the grads parlay that experience into four-year schools or springboard directly into the workforce with a head start. OAKLAND — A Bay Area man was sentenced to 70 months in federal prison for possessing a huge amount of methamphetamine after agreeing to sell it to an undercover agent, according to court records.Alan Contreras was sentenced in late March and subsequently transferred from Santa Rita Jail in Dublin to the Bureau of Prisons system, court records show. He pleaded guilty to a federal offense of possessing more than 50 grams of methamphetamine for distribution, but authorities say he showed up to a meeting with an undercover federal agent with a duffle bag containing a whopping 60 pounds of the drug.The sentence was imposed by U.S. District Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers.Contreras also sold more than 1,400 counterfeit painkiller pills to the agent, prosecutors alleged in court records. (KRON) -- A mother in Santa Rosa has been arrested after her one-year-old toddler overdosed on Tuesday, the Santa Rosa Police Department said. SEATTLE (AP) — Yankees manager Aaron Boone said “it’s definitely in play,” that the trio of Josh Donaldson, Giancarlo Stanton and Tommy Kahnle could return to New York’s active roster this weekend in Los Angeles.Boone wasn’t willing to definitely say Wednesday that the trio would rejoin the Yankees before their series against the Dodgers.
