ASHTABULA, Ohio (WJW) — Surveillance cameras were recording on Tuesday when an offender used a trip to an Ace Hardware store in Ohio to ditch his electronic tether. Authorities use ankle bracelets as one way to track the movements of lawbreakers, and on occasion, suspects try to remove the GPS devices. $1M top prize for local scratch-off player Security video shows the man wandering around the Ashtabula store before he was approached by an employee. He told her that he was looking for hedge clippers. After being shown the tool, the man walked just out of sight of a surveillance camera. He then grabbed a free bag of popcorn, walked out the door and was last seen grabbing a backpack and riding away on a bicycle. The Austin Fire Department said on social media Thursday morning the fire was near where MoPac and Park Bend Drive intersect, just north of The Domain. AFD said in an update crews got the fire under control, and it appears to have originated in a campsite. AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Austin Fire Department said it responded to a fire at a high-rise 507 Sabine Street in Austin Thursday morning. AFD said the fire was on the tenth floor of the building.AFD reported a person was trapped on a balcony of the building, but they were removed."Trapped person has been removed from the building safely and has been delivered to Austin EMS for evaluation.," AFD said in a social media post.AFD said a primary search was completed with no one else found, but a secondary search was underway to check additional apartments.According to AFD, an unconscious pet was removed from the fire apartment and was being treated.The building was in the 500 block off Sabine Street, according to AFD.Fire crews were able to get the fire under control, according to AFD, and as of 11:31 a.m., the majority of the smoke had been cleared.AFD is expected to hold a media briefing surrounding the incident.Woodbury sisters fight back against Alzheimer’s with fundraiser

Leah Huxtable and Eva Thompson experienced the financial burden of caring for a mother with Alzheimer’s disease. Since then, they’ve tried to ease that burden for others.The Bash For Brains Fund will be hosting its tenth annual fundraiser Saturday, Sep. 9. Half of the money raised will go to the Alzheimer’s Association, the other half to local families. (NEWS10) -- SUNY Cobleskill has been awarded a $50,000 grant from the Department of Environmental Conservation toward flooding prevention along the banks of the Cobleskill Creek on the school's campus. TROY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The Troy Police Department arrested Nijiquaan Y. Stroud, 22, on Tuesday night. ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- An Albany man died after being hit by a car in the parking lot of a truck stop in Plattsburgh. Wayne Haupt, 53, was taken to the University of Vermont Health Network at Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital (CVPH) where he was later pronounced dead. Police attempted to pull the suspected car over, but the driver fled. Eventually, the car was stopped in the town of Long Lake and the driver was identified as Thomas Lance, 38, of Albany.
